We're complete amateurs but found our loft hatch came with clear instructions and was easy to fit. Like the lock option, which we've kept, and it looks suitably unobtrusive, with a good finish, in our hall ceiling.

A solid loft hatch, made of good material, doesn't feel cheap. I found it very difficult to find a loft hatch which: A. had a metal opening lock (opening one was plastic and wore down over the years) B. was big enough and C. was well insulated and conforms to building regs. The one thing that dod slightly bother me was that the insulation is uncovered, it would be great just to wrap it in plastic or something to prevent my ladder rubbing up against it and causing glass fibre to shed. An option for an integrated ladder would have been stellar too but we made do
