Safe, easy access to your loft
Make accessing your loft easy with this semi-automatic loft hatch. The hatch is fitted with an electric motor, which is operated by remote control. A simple press of a button opens and closes the hatch. All you have to do is unfold and re-fold the attached timber ladder. For your protection, an in-built safety system constantly monitors the hatch during opening and closing in order to stop the motor should abnormal resistance be detected. The electric loft hatch also has a battery backup so it can be opened in the event of a power cut. All ladders come with timber handrails (except for the 560mm wide model, which has metal handrails).
Hand-made in Ireland from premium grade materials:
The ladder is made from southern yellow pine, sourced from managed forests in North America; this is the same timber used in the construction of timber frame houses. SAP prime grade timber is used on account of it having minimal knots and defects, resulting in an incredibly strong ladder.
It's this quality and strength which sets an industry-leading maximum floor-to-ceiling height of up to 3.96m (13ft).
The ladder treads are located into grooves in the stiles (the upright parts of the ladder), the treads are glued before being clamped and nailed. The result is a robust, sturdy ladder which has chemical and mechanical fixings. The inner and outer frame of the Stira stairs are made from White Deal sourced from managed forests in Northern Europe. This is another strong reliable construction grade timber.
Outer frame
The Stira folding attic stairs feature a substantial outer frame which is 108mm x 32mm; this deep frame gives the Stira a solid attachment to the joists in the loft. The outer frame is essential as this will be carrying the weight of the ladder through the hinges and linkage arms, which are the main load-bearing parts of any folding stairs or loft ladder.
Fitting
Please note this ladder requires a 3 pin 240V electric socket to be situated within 1 meter of the intended opening. Please arrange for a qualified electrician to install a socket in your loft prior to fitting the hatch as power is required during installation.

Note: If you intend to install your Stira Semi-Automatic system flush against a permanent structure in your loft space such as a wall, you'll require an extra 40mm clearance on the motor side, and/or an extra 15mm clearance on the bearing side on the width. For the length, you'll require an extra 40mm clearance at the motor end.

Additional loft safety for your peace of mind
As the video above shows, getting from your loft back onto the ladder can be tricky. While the Stira ladder has very generous 98mm treads, it's not always easy to see whether your feet are firmly on the tread of the ladder. An additional safety grabrail or rail around provides an additional anchor point for your safety when entering and leaving your loft space.

Size Guide
1) Measure your floor to ceiling height
2) Measure the width and length of your existing loft opening
How to measure:
Width - Measure between the your ceiling joists at both ends of your loft opening. Note, some loft openings have additional framing added, which will be removed since the Stira ladder includes its own frame.
Length - To fit a folding ladder, ensure your attic opening is at least 1.048m (41 ¼”), though the exact length depends on your floor-to-ceiling height.
It is possible you will need to enlarge your existing loft opening. Always use a qualified professional to carry out the work.
